eBook for Mentees

Our eBook for mentees, Get Ready for Mentoring, is packed with tools and tips to prepare and equip mentees to take ownership for their mentoring experience. The eBook is designed as a workbook, with engaging, interactive exercises, and the structure follows the natural flow of a mentoring relationship. It will develop the skills and confidence of those who are embarking on mentorship. It’s accessible on multiple devices as an easy learning resource for mentees.

Get Ready for Mentoring can be used on its own or, for maximum effectiveness, as part of our online mentoring training workshop. There are useful templates including reflection journals, mentoring meeting agendas and a development plan. There are also activities that enable mentees to reflect on their readiness for mentoring and to work on their ongoing development.

The tips, tools and best practice guides ensure that Get Ready for Mentoring continues to deliver value throughout the mentoring relationship and ensures that mentees are actively engaged in driving value from mentoring.

This workbook is available as part of our mentoring programmes.

“Get Ready for Mentoring is insightful, pragmatic, accessible, and deals very effectively with the emotional and the practical aspects of mentoring”

Why you need Get Ready for Mentoring

Research from Henley found that when mentees are trained, the mentoring is 30% more effective. Therefore, training mentees is a critically important part of any mentoring programme. Without training, mentees often fail to take full advantage of the benefits of mentoring. They may also leave too much of the ownership for a successful mentoring relationship with mentors.

For many organisations, ensuring mentoring training is consistent across business units, countries or regions can be a headache. Our eBook for mentees ensures that the language, messages, best practice and engagement with mentoring are consistent throughout the organisation. It also provides clarity to everyone about what is expected of mentees.

The mentoring eBook covers the key areas of understanding mentoring, ensuring readiness for mentoring, setting mentoring goals, maximising opportunities to learn and develop from the mentor, maintaining momentum and how to ensure an effective ending when the time comes. Within each section, there are relevant tips, tools, questions to facilitate thinking, learning and ideas. There are also practical and useful templates.

For example, we discuss a concept called The Awe Factor which is a risk for mentees and there are suggestions for how to avoid it happening. Get Ready for Mentoring enables mentees to think about their learning style – an invaluable insight that adds value to them beyond the mentoring relationship. It also discusses what can go wrong in a mentoring relationship and what to do about it. A handy review template to facilitate regular progress reviews by both parties is available in the worksheets.

Worksheets can be used as pre-work, thereby saving time during online training and keeping mentoring webinars pacy, engaging and interactive.

Our Mentoring Conversation Cards, designed to be used by mentors and mentees are the perfect partner for a comprehensive mentoring package to provide pragmatic, high value support for your mentoring programme.
